The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) was the most active state-owned investor (SOI) worldwide, with 3.9 billion U.S. dollars invested as of May 2022. It is estimated the majority of this total amount is the result of a single real estate investment deal valued at 2.1 billion U.S dollars in the UK student housing sector. Saudi's PIF fund also gained the majority of its value from a single deal worth roughly 1.5 billion U.S dollars. Sovereign wealth funds are groups of funds founded by the state to invest and manage capital on the state's behalf.
