The coronavirus pandemic had a major effect on the eating behavior of South Americans. Lockdowns and isolation kept people confined to their homes, resulting in an increase in cooking activity. This was most apparent in Uruguay, where the average surveyed respondent cooked 1.5 more meals per week in 2020 than in 2019. In 2021, cooking frequencies normalized again in most countries.
