Foreign currency and gold assets of the Bank of Russia 2022, by region
The Central Bank of Russia was estimated to have foreign currency and gold assets worth nearly 157 billion U.S. dollars in Western European countries, such as Austria, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, as of early 2022. Furthermore, over 87 billion U.S. dollars were held in Japanese banks, and 34 billion U.S. dollars in the U.S.
