According to an analysis of 300 Weibo posts on Russia-Ukraine war which were published by the state media outlets in China and shared more than 1,000 times, about 46 percent of such trending content was identified as pro-Russia coverage. China has cast itself as neutral in the war and refused to describe Russia's attack as an "invasion".

The source took the posts from the Weibo accounts of the 14 most influential state media outlets in China as a sample to analyze. There were about 5,000 Weibo posts focusing on the first eight days of the invasion and news about the events in Ukraine. Among these 5,000 posts, more than 300 pieces were identified as the most highly engaging content as they had been shared on Weibo more than 1,000 times.
Some posts were classified into more than one category.
The source also specified that the findings may not be representative of all posts produced by the Chinese state media as only posts with high engagement were studied.
