The number of tourists arriving in South Africa amounted to almost 5.7 million in 2022. Of those, the majority visited the country for vacation, adding up to over five million travelers. This represented around 95 percent of the total arrivals. Furthermore, around 222 thousand visitors entered the country on a business trip, while 41 thousand individuals visited South Africa for educational reasons. Notably, the number of travelers since 2020 experienced a major decrease compared to previous years due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic's negative impact on travel.
