The once-beloved Chinese instant messenger QQ has gradually lost its relevance in China's increasingly crowded internet arena. While about 32 percent of Chinese respondents would open QQ every day, users usually spent less than 30 minutes on the platform per day. In the early 2022, Tencent embedded video game engine Unreal Engine in the updated version of QQ as the latest move to revitalize the obsolete app and to develop its metaverse presence.
