Consumer sentiments about food waste in the U.K. from May 2018 to June 2021

In May 2018, nearly 89 percent of respondents with responsibility for food shopping and/or preparation in the United Kingdom (U.K.) agreed with the statement that food waste is an important national issue. By June 2021, the share of respondents who agreed with that statement had decreased to 76 percent. In April of 2020 an uptick in the views that food waste an important issue and that everyone has the responsibility to minimize waste could be seen. In June of 2020 the personal view that minimizing food was needs to be a top priority had increased to the highest level seen since May 2019. Both values dropped by 2021 to pre-pandemic levels.
