A May 2021 survey asked people with different ethnic backgrounds in the United States about the level of trust they place in museums. Overall, households without people of color showed a higher level of trust in museums compared to households with people of color. From among households with people of color, Hispanic or Latino/Latina households reported a higher trust level score than Black or African American households.

Respondents indicated their level of trust using a scale between 0 and 10. Average scores are presented.
The sample consisted of households with the following ethnicities: white/no people of color households (66 percent), people of color households (31 percent). Within the sample of people of color households, respondents included: Black or African American households (15 percent), Hispanic or Latino/Latina households (nine percent). Finally, three percent of households included both people of color and white people.
