In a June 2023 survey by Statista, 24 percent of responding members of Generation Z and 25 percent of Millennials stated that sustainability is a particularly important criteria for them when buying food and beverages in the United States. This concern over sustainability was smaller among older respondents.

The original survey question was phrased as follows: "Which of the following criteria are particularly important to you when buying food or drinks?“ Multiple answers were possible.
Generations are defined as follows:
Silent Generation: 1928-1945, Baby Boomers: 1946-1964, Generation X: 1965-1979, Millennials: 1980-1994, Generation Z: 1995-2012
