Renewable electricity generation in Africa 2010-2021, by source
Electricity generation from renewable energy sources in Africa has been increasing. As of 2021, the total electricity output from renewables on the continent reached 191 terawatt hours - more than double the energy generated in 2000. Rich in resources, Africa's electricity production from renewables has been mainly driven by hydropower. However, the use of other renewable energy sources has also grown. For instance, electricity output from wind expanded from 2.4 terawatt hours to 17 terawatt hours in the last two decades.
