The United States is the largest producer of natural gas based carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions worldwide. In 2022, natural gas emissions in the U.S. totaled approximately two billion short tons of (CO₂). This was almost twice the amount of emissions produced in Russia - the second largest polluter of natural gas based emissions.
