In 2019, about 95 percent of responding vegans in Europe named animal welfare as one of the reasons they are following a vegan diet. Environmental concerns and sustainability of their food consumption ranked second with 83.9 percent of respondents. Only a small share of 2.6 percent were following a vegan diet because they are interested in it as a trend.
