In a 2019 survey, about a third of responding German consumers stated that they had not reduced their meat consumption for environmental reasons and did not intend to do so in the future. Slovakians and Italians saw the largest share of respondents that stated that they stopped eating red meat explicitly for environmental reasons, with 7.6 and 7.5 percent of respondents answering this way, respectively. In Spain almost six percent of respondents planned to do so for environmental reasons in the future.
