In 2020, approximately 30 percent of respondents in the age group of the 25 to 30-year-olds in the United Kingdom* (U.K.) stated in a survey that at some point during the last 12 months, they did not eat because they could not afford it. This was the highest among all age groups. These experiences are much more rare among older respondents 65 an older.
The base for the survey were all respondents who any adults in household cut/skipped meals, or respondent ate less/didn't eat/lost weight, in the last 12 months because there wasn't enough money for food.

Participants were asked: "In the last 12 months, were you ever hungry but didn't eat because there wasn't enough money for food?"
BASE: All respondents who often/sometimes worried food would run out before they got money to buy more or the food that they bought didn't last and they didn't have money to buy more or couldn't afford to eat balanced meals.
*The surveyed region includes England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Scotland is not included.
