Press freedom index in Hong Kong 2015-2025
In 2025, Hong Kong's press freedom index was further down to 39.86 points, which was classified as a difficult situation. This marks a major decline in the freedom level of journalists in the city under the implementation of a National Security Law by Beijing followed by corresponding measures to silence various independent voices. Between 2013 and 2025, Hong Kong's press freedom ranking fell from 58th place to 140th among all 180 surveyed countries and regions.
