Worldwide shale gas production is forecast to climb to over 1.5 trillion cubic meters by 2050. The unconventional hydrocarbon type is to remain the second most common form of natural gas production, having accounted for 650 billion cubic meters in natural gas output in 2019. Associated gas production is the only type expected to see production volumes decline in the coming decades.
