Get in touch with us nowDuring fiscal 2023 (ended February 2024), there were a total of just over 2,900 GameStop outlets in the United States, which is a decrease of over 30 stores compared to one year earlier. A large number of these stores were located in some of the more populated states, such as Texas, California, and Florida. Worldwide, there were 4,413 GameStop stores, including nearly 650 in Europe.
As of March 2024, GameStop was the leading choice among consumers in the United States for buying video games in-store, followed by Walmart and Best Buy. Buying digital video games online, however, seemed to be more popular. The option used the most when spending money on video games online was Amazon Games, followed by the Apple App Store and the PlayStation Store.
A common misconception that exists among video games is that the medium is geared towards or meant for children and teenagers. While there are many people under 18 years of age that partake in this hobby, a large share of gamers in the United States were in fact adults. In 2023, over a quarter of 30 to 49-year-olds in the United States said they spend about one to five hours per week playing video games.
