Merger and acquisition deals in the African upstream oil and gas sector amounted to roughly 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, a sharp decline of 88 percent in comparison to the previous year. In 2019, M&A deals in Africa reached 11.5 billion U.S. dollars, with the most outstanding including the companies Total and ExxonMobil. From 2019 to 2020, also the number of M&A deals in the oil and gas industry in Africa decreased.
