Cash money use in Sweden in 2020, by age group
When asked in 2020 which payment method Swedes used in a shop, older people - ages 65 to 84 - used cash more often than younger respondents. Swedes between 25 and 44 years old - an age group that some might consider to include most Millennials - used cash the least: only six percent of them had used banknotes or coins in their most recent purchase in a brick-and-mortar store. The source adds that more than half of the Swedish people over 65 was negative towards the decline of cash usage in society. This led to Sweden slowing down its developments towards a cashless society, instead providing an option to do some cash payments in the country.
