Twenty-two years after its “official” foundation by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google is no longer the small company it was when it started. It has now almost become synonymous with the Internet, and has not left the pole position of the most visited sites in the world and in France for a long time. In 2019, referral traffic brought 39.55 percent of Google's net traffic, in other words, visits from other sites, without searching for it on a search engine.

* The companies referred to as GAFAM represent the five web giants - Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft - which are the five major American firms (founded between the last quarter of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century) that dominate the digital world.
Referral traffic describes the people who visit a domain from other sites, without searching for it on Google. When someone visits a link from a social network or website and they end up on another site, tracking systems from Google recognize the visitor as a referral.
