Top grossing mobile games in Hong Kong 2024

In August 2024, the game AFK Journey was the highest-grossing game app in Hong Kong, earning almost three million U.S. dollars of revenue. Overall, Chinese and foreign game developers occupy the major spots in the bestselling mobile game titles. 

A small but highly-engaged gaming userbase

Hong Kong is home to about six million smartphone users. Despite its gaming population, the Asian financial hub ranked twelfth in mobile game consumer spend in 2021, ahead of more populated countries such as Thailand and Brazil. A high propensity to spend on mobile apps and significant gaming penetration makes the city one of the important markets for mobile game developers.

Gaming culture in Hong Kong

In fact, Hong Kong has a mature gaming market with a growing appetite for entertainment. A whooping 84 percent of respondents reported to play online games on a weekly basis. Daily gamers are present across different age groups with a higher rate of older audiences. In terms of genres, casual games are more popular among Hong Kong players who tend to spend less than two hours per session.
