In a survey conducted in 2020, almost 35 thousand enterprises in the wholesale and retail trade industry that were active in e-commerce were engaged in business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce in Japan. In total, there more than 67 thousand businesses engaged in B2C e-commerce.

The survey includes enterprises of a certain size in the manufacturing and service industry, excluding the agriculture, forestry, and fishery industry, construction industry, and sole proprietorship businesses.
