In 2019, survey respondents in France stated that they spent 996 British pounds on health and fitness supplements. French respondents spent the most overall, followed by their Italian and German counterparts. The biggest part of the spending in France was made up by protein shakes; vegan supplements and weight-loss supplements made up only small shares of the total spending.
Overall health and fitness spending
Supplements are a significant part of a larger health and fitness market that includes a lot of spending on sport and related items such as gym clothing, gym fees, personal trainers, and meal plans. Per-capita spending on these items was close to two thousand pounds in Germany and in France. However, Italian consumers spent the most with over 2,300 pounds. They spent the most on meal plans, personal trainers, and gym memberships.
Supplement spending in the UK
Per-capita spending on supplements in the United Kingdom was 716 pounds on average. In Scotland, respondents stated that they spent on average only 639 pounds, which was the smallest regional average. Londoners and respondents in Wales paid above the national average.
