In November of 2018, a survey among English farmers about measures they are currently taking to address a range of issues affecting their farms, found that 18 percent of respondents said that they are planting more tress and hedges or are investing in agroforestry. About 24 percent of respondents stated that they engage in efficient management of nutrients and other inputs.

The list of all issues mentioned includes: "Increased costs and/or lower profit margins, Increase in weather volatility, Commodity market volatility, Pests and disease, Soil compaction/run-off/poor drainage or loss of soil fertility, Unreasonable demands from buyers/the market (e.g. for cosmetic qualities, timing), Labor issues (cost/skills gap/shortages etc.), Lack of policy direction (from Local Authority/Government etc.), Housing development threats, Loss of farmland birds, pollinators, other wildlife and/or plants, None of the above, Other".
