According to a survey conducted by Ipsos, around 78 percent of South Korean respondents thought it was important to purchase fish not at risk of disappearing, i.e. fish speices that had not been experiencing sharp population decline. Only two percent of respondents thought this was not at all important.

The survey question was as follows: 'How important are each of the following to you when it comes to choosing a specific type of fish: Not on a list of species at risk of disappearing (i.e., have seen their population decline sharply)."
