Walking was the most preferred mode of transportation by urban dwellers for their weekly needs in the south Asian country of India according to a survey on urban mobility. The eastern and northern regions in the country had a higher share of non-motorized transport compared to the other regions.

Respondents were from six metro cities, 16 tier one cities and 38 tier two cities.
Multiple answers were possible in this survey.
Note:
Metro - population of over seven million
Tier one - population between 2 million and 7 million
Tier two - population between 0.1 million and 2 million
