In 2020, lithium carbonate sales of Bolivian state-owned company Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YBL) amounted to some 450 bolivianos (approximately 65 U.S. dollars, according to December 31, 2020 exchange rates). That year, sales were restricted to samples for the international assessment of quality. In terms of quantity, the company's lithium carbonate sales amounted to less than 10 kilograms.
YBL is responsible for developing the entire production chain of salt flats' resources in Bolivia, such as lithium and potassium salts. The company was founded in 2017, under the Ministry of Economy, replacing the former responsible organ, Gerencia Nacional de Recursos Evaporíticos (GNRE).
