In 2020, lithium carbonate sales of Bolivian state-owned company Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YBL) were below 0.01 metric tons, with sales restricted to samples for the international assessment of quality. In the first half of the year, YBL's lithium carbonate production was estimated at 34 metric tons. YBL is responsible for developing the entire production chain of salt flats' resources in Bolivia, such as lithium and potassium salts. The company was founded in 2017, under the Ministry of Economy, replacing the former responsible organ, Gerencia Nacional de Recursos Evaporíticos (GNRE).
