Actual sales revenue of eSports game market in China 2016-2023
After a 16 percent drop in the previous year, China's eSports market revenue inched up to 133 billion yuan in 2023, which was still below the level in 2020. Since November 2019, the Chinese government has imposed stricter video game time limits on players under the age of 18. The current regulation prohibits play time over 3 hours per week, which makes it difficult for eSports clubs to recruit teenage gamers in a fiercely competitive field where most pro players retire in their mid-twenties.
