Due to the decades long one-child policy, a skewed sex ratio has developed in China. It has become harder for single Chinese men to find a marriage partner. According to a survey about online dating in China in August 2018, almost 60 percent of the Chinese respondents aged between 36 and 40 had used online dating self-services to look for a potential date.
