In 2018, the total retail sales value of grain-based meat substitutes reached nearly 565 million U.S. dollars. The most important grain-based meat substitute was seitan. This year, the retail sales value of seitan burgers and grills was nearly 130 million euros. This was slightly less than the value of seitan sausages, which reached 153.1 million dollars in 2018.
