According to a survey conducted in August 2019, almost 21 percent of young Japanese aged between 17 and 19 years old wished to retire before the age of 65. Currently, Japanese employees become eligible for public pensions at the age of 65. Considering the demographic changes in Japan and the concomitant burdens on the social security system, it is projected that young Japanese today will have to start receiving their pensions later than previous generations.
