English proficiency growth in Latin American countries 2018

With 2.77 points Bolivia reported the highest increase in the English Proficiency Index score between 2017 and 2018 among presented Latin American countries. Bolivia's general score in 2018 stood at 51.65 points, placing it in the "low proficiency" level, as set my the source.
Proficiency levels used by the source:
Very high proficiency: 63 point or higher,
High proficiency: 58 to 62 points,
Moderate proficiency: 52 to 58 points,
Low proficiency: 48.5 to 53 points,
Very low proficiency: Lower than 48.5 points.

The data is based on test results of 2,300,000 people who took the EF Standard English Test (EF SET) or one of EF's English placement tests from around the world. The test is online based and checks passive skills - reading and listening. The sample is balanced between men and women and various age ranges. The median age of test takers was 23. For further information on the methodology, please see pages 44 and 45 of the source document.
