According to a survey conducted by Ipsos in June 2019, the majority of respondents in China agreed that social media bans are ineffective because there are many ways to bypass it, with 15 percent strongly agreeing to the statement.
The background of the survey was a temporary social media ban by the government in Sri Lanka in April 2019 in the wake of a fatal terrorist attack.

For each of the following, please indicate if you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree or strongly disagree: There are many ways around social media bans, so they will never be effective.
The survey sample in China was more urban, educated, and with higher incomes than their fellow citizens, referred to as “Upper Deck Consumer Citizens”. They were not nationally representative of their country.
