According to a survey conducted by Ipsos in June 2019, 70 percent of respondents in China agreed that cutting off social media during times of crisis is unacceptable due to the importance of platforms as an information source, with 19 percent strongly agreeing to the statement.
The background of the survey was a temporary social media ban by the government in Sri Lanka in April 2019 in the wake of a fatal terrorist attack.

For each of the following, please indicate if you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree or strongly disagree: Temporarily cutting off social media platforms at times of crisis is unacceptable because they are the primary source of news and information for many people.
The survey sample in China was more urban, educated, and with higher incomes than their fellow citizens, referred to as “Upper Deck Consumer Citizens”. They were not nationally representative of their country.
