Hello Group Inc., a Chinese company that operates the popular dating apps Momo and Tantan, reported a net income of almost two billion yuan in 2023. The Group's flagship app Momo, originally a simple location-based dating app, now relies on live video streaming services as its main revenue stream. Its monetization model which encourages users to buy virtual gifts for streamers was once highly profitable until the Chinese government has doubled down its regulations on live streaming.
