In December, state media in North Korea said that Kim Jong-un and his government will not denuclearize/demilitarize until the United States has done the same. A quote from the statement broadcast by Korean Central News Agency, as reported by the Associated Press, said: "The United States must now recognize the accurate meaning of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and especially, must study geography...When we talk about the Korean Peninsula, it includes the territory of our republic and also the entire region of [South Korea] where the United States has placed its invasive force, including nuclear weapons. When we talk about the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, it means the removal of all sources of nuclear threat, not only from the South and North but also from areas neighboring the Korean Peninsula".
The latest summit between Kim and U.S. President Trump ended abruptly, as apparent disagreements of the removal of sanctions proved a sticking point. Since then, analysts at Beyond Parallel have detected what they describe as the "rapid rebuilding of the long-range rocket site at Sohae", as shown on our infographic which also uses information from Nuclear Threat Initiative to show where Kim Jong-un's nuclear infrastructure is located.
