Naomi Osaka took home the trophy at the Australian Open on the weekend, marking her fourth singles win in a Grand Slam tournament. This caused the Japanese player to overtake Angelique Kerber in the list of the active players with the most Grand Slam titles. Osaka now shares the number three spot with Belgium national Kim Clijsters.
Tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams are still way ahead of the active player competition, however. While Venus Williams has seven titles to her name, no active player is even close to matching her sister Serena's Grand Slam resume.
Serena Williams also hold the record for most Grand Slam wins of any female player since 1968, the year the professional "Open Era" started. Williams surpassed Steffi Graf's previous record of 22 wins in 2017. Considering Grand Slams of the amateur era before 1968, Serena Williams is still chasing the all-time record of Margaret Court. The Australian won 24 Grand Slams between 1960 and 1973, both as an amateur and a professional player.
