Countries have contributed about $7.6 billion to combat global climate change and cut emissions over the past decade, according to a new report from the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). The UK has been chief amongst them, contributing $2.5 billion while the US also pledged $2.4 billion.
Half of the total amount was targeted at just ten countries. Morocco, Mexico and Brazil have been the primary beneficiaries, receiving over half a billion dollars each from major climate funds. Both Mexico and Brazil are among the world's ten worst producers of greenhouse gases, and they have huge renewable energy potential, along with Morocco. Over the past ten years, Morocco has received over $600 million to fight climate change.
