Data from the U.S. Travel Association forecasts that 2023 will be see total domestic trips – both for business and leisure – exceed 2019 levels for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 2.38 billion domestic trips are expected in the United States in 2023, 70 million more than recorded in 2019. This sum is anticipated to consist of 1.94 billion leisure trips and 440 million business trips.
Although 2022 saw 30 million more domestic leisure trips than 2019, slower recovery in business travel meant that the overall total remained lower, as the combined annual figure for 2022 reached only 2.25 billion.
According to projections, business travel will exceed 2019 numbers again in 2024 with a total of 470 million domestic trips in the U.S., while leisure trips will reach the 2 billion mark during the same year.
