A highly anticipated remaster of the first entries into the Tony Hawk skateboarding video game series will officially release on Friday. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 will combine the two games made over two decades ago with updated graphics and other modern features. While initial reviews show a positive reception to the game, it has stiff competition from the review scores of the original games.
According to Metacritic scores from video game critics, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 from 2000 is the highest-rated game in the series. A near perfect score of 98 puts it one point ahead of the third iteration of the franchise released in 2001 and six points ahead of the first released in 1999. Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 from 2004 was the last game in the series to receive a cumulative rating score over 80.
The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series has been around since the very first PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The games revolve around a player controlling a skater and traversing different locations, exploring areas and scoring points through tricks and causing mayhem. The original games accurately captured the grunge spirit of the 1990s and early 2000s and played a part in propelling skateboarding as a sport across the world.
