When Manchester City and Inter face off in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday, the freshly-crowned English champions will be the clear favorites to win the most coveted prize in club football. After losing to Chelsea in the 2020/21 final, it is City's second chance to win the Champions League trophy since the Abu Dhabi United Investment Group took over the club in 2008. Having already won the Premier League and the FA Cup in recent weeks, a win on Saturday would be the ultimate triumph for Pep Guardiola and his team, who have chased this trophy for years now.
As the following chart shows, Inter won the Champions League (or the European Cup as it was previously called) three times already, most recently in 2010. Real Madrid is in a league of its own in terms of European triumphs, however. The outfit from the Spanish capital won 14 Champions League titles, leading AC Milan (7), Liverpool and Bayern (6) by a wide margin.
