1 August 2019 marked the largest single-day volume loss on record for the Greenland ice sheet, pouring 12.5 billion tons of ice into the ocean. In the preceding month of July 2019, the Greenland ice sheet poured 197 billion tons of water in the North Atlantic – enough water to cover Florida in five inches of water. The below infographic – created by our Content & Information Design department – shows the effects scientists estimate this will have on the world’s sea levels.
