The state of social housing across Germany
Germany
Like many other developed countries, Germany is also experiencing a fall in social housing. In the decade from 2006 to 2016, the number of social properties fell by 830,000. The following infographic shows the situation across Germany in 2015 by visualising the number of social apartments per 1,000 inhabitants by federal state. Hamburg had the most with 48 per 1,000 inhabitants, largely thanks to several urban development projects. Berlin came second with 35 while North Rhine-Westphalia came third with 27.
