The rising middle-class in China loves to travel by air. However, these consumers often find it difficult to purchase discount tickets. A recent report stated that low-cost carriers are booming across Asia while China is struggling. Indonesia's Lion Air, India's Indigo Airlines and AirAsia have quickly surpassed traditional airlines in terms of domestic and regional market share.
According to data from CAPA Centre for Aviation, an aviation industry research company, low-cost airlines only have a 7 percent share in China's domestic market, whereas it’s already two-thirds in India and Thailand. As of 2018, Spring Airlines was the cheapest budget airline operating domestically in China with an average price per kilometer of only $0.12, according to research from travel planning website Rome2Rio.
