Where Refugees Arrive in Italy
Migration
Italy has the most refugee arrivals of all European countries on the Mediterranean. So far, according to the UNHCR, some 93,400 refugees arrived on its shores or were brought to its harbors by rescue vessels. This amounts to 7,300 more people arriving than in the same time period of the previous year.
As our infographic shows, Sicily is the region taking in most refugees, more than half of the total. While during the crisis in 2015 most refugees came to Greece (211,700 in October alone) this figure has dropped to 9,300 for the first half of 2017.
