Turnover of games and toys inspecialized retail sale in Norway 2014-2023
The revenue from the retail sale of games and toys in specialized stores in Norway decreased steadily between 2014 and 2019. In 2014, it amounted to approximately 2.3 billion Norwegian kroner and fell to roughly 1.75 billion Norwegian kroner in 2019. However, retail sale revenue increased again from 2020 on, and amounted to about two billion Norwegian kroner 2023. In contrast, the number of establishments in the manufacture of games and toys fluctuated over the same period. As of 2022, Norway registered 37 of these manufacturers.
Production value
In 2008, the production value of toys and (board)games manufacturing establishments was 15 million Norwegian kroner in Norway. Until 2016, it stagnated and increased to 23 million Norwegian kroner. Over the following years, the production value of companies in the manufacture of games and toys in Norway grew to 32 million Norwegian kroner in 2018.
Bankruptcies
In 2019, four Norwegian companies in the retail sales of games and toys in specialized stores went bankrupt in the first quarter, one company in the second quarter and none went bankrupt in the third and fourth quarters. By the first quarter of 2020, however, another five specialized retailers went bankrupt.
