This forecast illustrates worldwide tablet sales from 2010 to 2016, shown here according to operating system. Apple's iOS continues to be the dominant media tablet operating system (OS), as it is projected to account for 61.4 percent of worldwide media tablet sales to end users in 2012. In 2011, Apple's total number of tablet shipments amounted to 40.5 million. In the second quarter of 2011, 14.6 million units were shipped, up from 3.3 million in the same period of the previous year.
