Greenhouse gas emissions in Germany 1990-2022, by type of gas
Germany emitted around 667 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2022, which accounted for roughly 90 percent of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions that year. Methane was the second-largest contributor to Germany's GHG emissions in 2022, at 45 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Since 1990, carbon dioxide and methane emissions in Germany have fallen 37 and 66 percent, respectively.
