Annual methane emissions in Canada 1990-2022
Canada's methane (CH4) emissions increased by two percent in 2022 to 115.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). This was the second consecutive year that the North American country's CH4 emissions increased, continuing to rebound from the dramatic reductions observed in 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak. Despite this growth, CH4 emissions have remained below pre-pandemic levels.
